Introduction Is a preventative whole school social and emotional learning program. Promotes positive mental health and wellbeing. Focuses on classroom strategies and activities that teach students positive social and emotional life skills Develops types of learning environments and teacher-student relationships that foster wellbeing and resilience.

Bounce back Is: A whole school program.
Delivered by teachers and integrated with academic learning. Universal. (all students) Multi-year and long term. Multi-strategic approach. (Peer to peer learning, Hattie) Delivered early to a child’s learning. Cognitive behavioural approaches link

Core Features Is long term, multi-year, whole school program.
Universal program. Consolidation for small groups. Taught by a teacher who will have a close relationship with the child. Multi-strategic approach. Promotion of positive behaviour and the reduction of anti-social behaviour. Social and emotional knowledge, skills and concepts are integrated with academic content. Predominately drawn from cognitive behaviour approaches.

Psychological principles of cognitive behaviour therapy. (CBT)Originally developed by Aaron Beck. That is; how you think is how you feel, in turn, how you behave. Also Albert Ellis’ Rational Emotive therapy and Martin Seligman’s Learned Optimism. Kid’s Matter research.

Positive Psychology Approach
Focus on psychological and educational intervention. Support for engagement and positive emotions. Building of individual strengths. Intentional development of social and emotional skills that contribute to positive relationships, resilience, and overall wellbeing.
