Urban Sprawl This is the name given for the growth of cities into the countryside as transport improved. To try and stop this GREEN BELTS were made around cities to protect the countryside. Here building was highly restricted. However there is a lot of pressure for development of this RURAL – URBAN FRINGE One example is the proposed NEWCASTLE GREAT PARK SCHEME. Write a persuasive piece of writing entitled Green belt land must be used for housing if there are to be enough homes for our children to live in. You must back it up with evidence. Hint Ist sentence – set the scene I like to use PEE Point, Evidence, Explanation

PEE Question: Why does Mr Piers put the fan on when MYP2 come into his class? Point: - Myp2 really do smell terribly. Evidence: For example Joe has not washed his socks in 2 weeks. Explanation: This means that the classroom smells of old cheese and therefore needs a fan.

Moving back to the centre
Originally land was expensive in the centre. Why? However the centre eventually became congested, dirty and busy meaning new industries moved to the outside. What other benefits did this new location have? This left the centres disused and derelict. Councils are now aiming to use these BROWNFIELD sites to encourage people to move in.
