Synopsis The genre of our show is a psychological thriller that focuses on one sole character who is tormented throughout his night time radio show. The name of our show will be called ‘The Night Shift”. Regarding the narrative the drama will follow Terry Meens who is a radio show host, who works the 2-6 late shift known as the Graveyard Shift. The basis of his show is a mix between music and a call in for people. As the show begins Terry has a call in from a lorry driver aged 39, the conversation is cut short with an unearthly sound, which goes to dead air. Terry believes this is just a temporary glitch and apologizes and moves on to the next caller. The next caller is a

Script Progress As we decided to write our own script, we initially had the idea of creating a horror drama based on the Amityville house, however this proved difficult because of copy right reasons. Therefore we brainstormed some more ideas and came up with creating a psychological thriller drama. We have had several meeting regarding script, and every time someone adds to the script they will post the updated version on our Facebook chat, so that we can all read over it and make sure it is going in the direction we want it to. At the moment we are still adding to our script as we have decided to completely write a new drama from scratch, so we are all still getting to grips with how to make the narrative sound believable to our target audience. We have copies of our current script for you to look over.

Character Casting Main Character (Terry Meens) – Cast (Chris Gruca)
Chris is a college drama teacher and has had experience in radio drama and theatre performances. As Chris is American we are playing on this and using his accent to our advantage. As Chris is playing the main part of Terry Meens he will use his own accent for this role, but for the part of the mysterious caller he will make his voice more deeper and apparent so that the audience can identify this voice as the villain. We have a clip of Chris using his voice in a theatre production. Smaller roles- Throughout our drama we have minor roles, these are: The Cleaner (Cast) The 39 year old lorry driver (Yet to be cast) A female in her late twenties (Yet to be cast)

Demographics There is a wide range of people that enjoy thrillers, therefore we feel our demographic is quite varied. However we would want the show to air at 8pm, as this is the prime time we believe our target audience would be listening. Our target audience is aimed at both females and males with an age range from year olds. We have decided this age range because even though it is quite wide, thriller stereotypically has a large target audience depending on the sub-genres that are added to the thriller, for example if it was a horror/gore thriller the target audience would be more niche, but we have gone for a more known psychological thriller that has a wider range in terms of target audience.

Sound Effects With our sound effects, we have decided to research into how to create certain sounds within the studio, for example the stabbing of flesh, for this the best thing to use is a piece of watermelon. As our script is not fully complete there are still various sound effects we still need to figure out and how we can create them in the studio. Also for the lorry driver call in we have discussed this aspect and feel that it would be wise to record this section on location, for example to get the sound of the truck and the traffic.

Blog For our radio drama we have created a blog that follows all of our pre-production and post-production work. For example will include screen shots and responses of our casting calls, how we will create the drama in terms of sound effects, managing our time and editing all the recordings together. We have styled our blog to link to our drama, as it is a thriller based show we have gone with conventional colors and typography to represent this genre. This will help anybody who views our blog understand the concept of the drama. Here is a link to our blog The blog is still in working progress.

Timings and Recording Currently we have scheduled our first recording session that will take place on Wednesday the 1st of February in the afternoon. We have kindly asked our actor Chris to come at 2pm, so that an hour before recording we have a chance as a team to set up the studio accordingly. We have given specific details for our actor about the day, for example where he can park and where a member of the team will meet and greet him and bring him up to the recording studio. At the moment we have only scheduled one session just with Chris for the drama, as it is still in working progress with getting our other actors and will record there parts separately.
