What are 3 responsibilities of citizens? What is the Dream Act? What is the purpose of Government?

A government is the ruling authority for a community or society. A government has the power to make, enforce and carry out laws.

5 Popular Sovereignty Popular Sovereignty is the belief that government is created by the people and subject to the will of the people.

Keep Order Pass and enforce laws Establish courts Provide Security Prevent crime Protect citizens from foreign attack

8 Public Policy Public Policy is a plan of government action to achieve community goals Important- it affects the citizens and the people of a community

Spending money on the correct things is a key to the success of a community

12 Types of Governments Democracy- government in which the people hold the power Direct Democracy- democracy in which the people vote firsthand Representative Democracy- democracy in which citizens choose a smaller group to govern on their behalf
