FRANCIS SCOTT FITZGERALD
Francis Scott Fitzgerald was born in 1896 in St. Paul , Minnesota. He married Zelda Sayre, a writer. He wrote about the Jazz Age (1920s). He had a difficult life: his wife died in a Hospital fire while was interned, and he turned to alcohol. He died in 1940 in Hollywood.

THE GREAT GATSBY PLOT: The story is told by Nick Carraway, who in 1922 moves to West Egg. He knows his mysterious neighbour, Jay Gatsby, a rich man who lives in a gigantic mansion. Nick, visiting his cousin Daisy and her husband Tom Buchanan, discovers that Daisy and Gatsby were lovers in Whereas she is now married, he is still in love with her: they could not get married because he was poor, so he spent all his life trying to rich and to realize their dream. He wants to recreate the past and live with her. Daisy seems to be in love too, but at the end she is not able to renounce to her frivoul life with Tom, with her family. During a car crash Gatsby defends Daisy and takes on her fault. The victim’s husband, George, thinks that Gatsby was his wife’s lover (when actually Tom was): Gatsby’s dream fails. MESSAGE: Gatsby never reaches the green light: he spent his entire life trying to recreate the past, but eventually its dream turns out to be a nightmare. Past cannot be recreated and the American dream is meant to fail.
