How these will be done Administered throughout May and the results will be sent to the Local Authority in June 2017. We do our best to keep them low-key but due to new guidelines they may be aware of different routines. We ask that you don’t use the phrase ‘SAT’s with the children as in our experience this makes the children anxious and then do not perform as well as they usually do. The assessments need to be carried out under test conditions within the classroom.
5
Reporting the results Children will be banded in 3 groups according to how they perform. Group 1 – Working towards the expected standard. Group 2 – Working within the expected standard. Group 3 – working at greater depth within the expected standard. They will be used to support teacher assessment at the end of May. These will be shared in your child’s school report at the end of Term 6.

Reading Reading test has a greater emphasis in the comprehension elements of the new curriculum. There are two reading papers, one with the text and questions combined and one with more challenging texts and questions within a separate booklet. All children taking the tests need to sit both papers. Each paper will have a selection of unrelated texts of increasing difficulty. Paper 1 will last approximately 30 minutes and paper 2 40 minutes. These papers are not strictly timed but we will use the guidance as appropriate.

Maths In maths at Key Stage 1 an arithmetic test has been introduced, there are two papers; arithmetic and reasoning. Paper 1 – Arithmetic assesses pupils confidence and mathematical fluency with whole numbers, place value and counting. It should take 20 minutes. So items in the arithmetic test have grids in the answer spaces, the grids are there for questions where the pupils may benefit from using more formal methods for calculations. Paper 2 – Reasoning assesses pupils mathematical fluency, problem solving and reasoning skills. The test consists of a single test paper an it should take 35 minutes. It includes 5 oral questions.

2016 In June 2016 we were moderated by the Local Authority to assess our judgement against the new Interim Assessment Frameworks “The Year 2 team show a high standard of professionalism and are clearly conscientious in their response to the new Interim Assessment Frameworks” This has provided us with the reassurance that our judgements and feedback for the children are accurate and in line with the new criteria. We will keep abreast of any relevant changes should they arise over the course of the year. Please keep checking the newsletter! Last year we reported results combined with our teacher judgement This is the current guidance for KS1
