2. How this PowerPoint Works

3. Lesson Overview
Draw an empty 6-space color wheel on the board. Explain that a color wheel is something used by artists.
Can the students name the primary colors? Fill them in as they name them.
Do they know what secondary colors are? They are made by mixing two of the primary colors. Red and Yellow make orange, blue and yellow make green and blue and red make purple.
If you would like, you can give each student a copy of the color wheel to fill out as you are talking.
A group of colors that are next to each other on the wheel are called analogous. Warm and Cool colors are specific sets of analogous colors.
What colors do they think of when you mention ice, snow or deep water? Blue, Green and Purple are considered cool colors.
What colors do they think of when you mention sun or fire? Yellow, Orange and Red are warm colors.
Show prints on the slides and talk about how each print makes them feel. Warm? Cold?
Today they are going to use tissue paper– to create a warm/cool collage. Show them how nice it is to fill the whole space (really emphasize this part). The objective here is to fill up their page with overlapping tissue paper…all in either warm and/or cool colors.
