Give Me a Hand
Biomedical Engineering is a growing career with many people looking at medical equipment that could help patients. In many cases, biomedical engineers look at ways that electronics and mechanical devices could be used to help people.
Give Me a Hand uses empathy, the understanding of another person’s problem, to create an artificial hand that will allow the builder of this model to realize the complexity of something that we take for granted each day. This model may be the first stage to developing and testing a better design.
Obtain instructions of the station helpers
Pick up a bag of parts and find a place on the floor
Talk about how your hand picks up objects like marbles and pencils
Construct from the parts a device that can attached to two fingers or held by two fingers that can pick up a small object
If it doesn’t work at first then modify and try again.
