TRYOUT INFORMATION MEDICAL PAPERWORK ELIGIBILITY PATRIOT STUDENT ATHLETE AWARD

2 MIDDLE SCHOOL ELIGIBILITY
2nd semester Final Grade determines Fall and Winter ONE eligibility - (The grade is designated by 2SY on Report Card) 1st semester Final Grade determines Winter TWO and Spring eligibility - (The grade is designated by 1SY on Report Card) (60 OR above is considered a passing grade) Must have passed a minimum 3 of 4 core courses (Science, Socials Studies, Language Arts, Math) Must adhere to the “Patriot Code of Conduct” Must have at least 85% attendance previous semester In Cabarrus County Schools only 7th and 8th graders are allowed to participate on athletic teams.

3 MIDDLE SCHOOL ELIGIBILITY
Ineligible for 7th grade Athletics if turning 14 years of age on or before August 31st of that school year Ineligible for 8th grade Athletics if turning 15 years of age on or before August 31st of that school year No student may be eligible to participate at the middle school level for a period lasting longer than four consecutive semesters, beginning with the student’s entry into seventh grade Must have a current medical physical cleared by a physician. Completion of Participation packet (found on “Patriot Athletics” website and in front office of school)

4 MEDICAL PAPERWORK MUST complete Cabarrus County forms in order to be eligible: Athletic Participation Packet Information Athletic Participation Physical Evaluation (signed and dated by a registered physician—must clear you to participate, along with pre-participation form) Domicile Athletic Insurance Waiver Form Gfeller/Waller Concussion Document (Student/Parents) Other important athletic forms All forms or complete tryout packet can be picked up in front office or downloaded from Harris Road Athletic web-page

5 MEDICAL PAPERWORK You will not be able to participate in tryouts or practices until Cabarrus County athletic paperwork is complete Once turned in, all medical paperwork will be kept on file for one sports calendar year……so if you tryout or participate in one sport, your participation packet will be good for all following sports in that school year (excluding an expired physical). See below about physicals. Important Information about Physicals: -Physicals are valid for 395 days. -After expiration, a new physical is needed in order to participate

6 Where can I find individual team information?
The BEST place to check for individual team information is the “Patriot Athletic” website located within the Harris Road Middle School website. Updated Coach information, schedule changes, and skill development sessions will be updated and posted throughout the summer. The Spring 2018 schedule will be published in Winter 2017/18. Athletic paperwork is very important to have turned in prior to tryouts. Without the athletic paperwork…you will not be allowed to tryout Please see the Athletic Director – Mr. Cline or any of our coaches/athletic trainer if you have any questions!

7 FALL SPORTS & TRYOUTS Fall Sports 2017:
7th Grade Football 8th Grade Football Softball The first official day of tryouts for Fall Sports will be August 18th, 2017 (Football and Softball) Please check the Cheerleading website throughout the summer for updated cheerleading information. Tryouts for Cheerleading can begin as early as August 1st. Check the Harris Road Athletics web-page throughout the summer for updated information on tryout/practice times and locations

8 TRYOUTS Four seasons of sports in Middle School: Fall, Winter One, Winter Two, Spring Winter Two (January 2 to March 1) 7th Grade Boys Basketball 7th Grade Girls Basketball 7th Grade Cheerleading Spring (March 2 to May 17) Baseball Volleyball Boys Track Girls Track Boys Soccer Girls Soccer Athletic participation is open to 7th and 8th Graders only Fall (August 18 to October 18) 7th Grade Football 8th Grade Football Softball 7th Grade Cheerleading 8th Grade Cheerleading Winter One (October 19 to December 19) 8th Grade Boys Basketball 8th Grade Girls Basketball Wrestling

9 PATRIOT STUDENT ATHLETE AWARD
Criteria for the Male and Female Patriot Student-Athlete of the Year Award: 8th grade student-athlete Must have completed participation in at least 2 school sports Achieved a high level of Academic performance Demonstrated a consistently high level of character on the court/field and in the classroom Involvement in other extra-curricular activities Discipline Record

10 ATHLETIC EVENT STAFF To work and assist in the operations of home athletic events for all sports at Harris Rd. Middle….Job responsibilities include: Working in concessions Helping sell athletic merchandise Setting up & tearing down for athletic events Running scoreboard or scorekeeping Working chains at football games Assisting the Athletics Director wherever needed.

11 ATHLETIC EVENT STAFF Privileges of being on Athletic Event Staff:
Free Admission to athletic events Free Athletic Event Staff t-shirt One free concession items at games you are working Plus more!! Please listen to the announcements for information at the beginning of school in August! Open to 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders!

12 WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A PATRIOT STUDENT-ATHLETE?
You Will Be Held To A Higher Standard!! By your coaches By your teachers By the administration By your peers And most importantly…..by yourself —become a part of Patriot Athletics to continue a great tradition!
