3 Background Student Success Task Force Recommendation 6.1 (2011):
“Community colleges will create a continuum of strategic professional development opportunities for all faculty, staff, and administrators to be better prepared to respond to evolving student needs and measures of student success.” “The Chancellor’s Office should explore the use of myriad approaches to providing professional development, including the use of technology.” Bulleted point is from a list of “Requirements for Implementation”. Task Force Calls for Improvements. In January 2011, the CCC Board of Governors initiated a 12-month strategic planning process to identify a course of action for improving student outcomes. To develop an improvement plan, the Board formed the Student Success Task Force, which consisted of 21 members from inside and outside the CCC system. In December 2011, the task force released a comprehensive report containing 22 recommendations designed to foster greater student success. Key areas of emphasis in the report included strengthening student support services for students and rethinking basic skills (developmental) education.

11 PLN Site Overview prolearningnetwork.cccco.edu or pln.cccco.edu
Calendar Speakers Bureau “My PD” Set goals Track training completed in the PLN To get to the PLN you will go to prolearningnetwork.cccco.edu or pln.cccco.edu, which is shorter but simply points you back to the longer version. So we are going to look at these sections of the site: Calendar, the Speakers Bureau, and MyPD which stands for My Professional Development and how to set goals for yourself.

12 PLN Site Overview prolearningnetwork.cccco.edu
So as you saw a moment ago, the first step is to register if you haven’t done so or login if you have.

13 Login / Register When you register you will fill out these fields – for the address you must use your .edu , or other CCC-affiliated . If you have a district you should find your district with the CCD designation. For other organizations, such as the Chancellor’s Office folks, you will select PLN Partner from the CCC Affiliation drop down. Under Job Classification you will select either Faculty, Staff, or Management; under Job Function you will select either Instruction, Student Support Services, Library Services, Technology Services, Human Resources, or Research. After you click on Register you will receive an verification message which you will click on and then you are registered with the PLN. Please note that you cannot change your username so choose carefully! Your password, , and other data can be edited in the MyPD section of the site.

14 Calendar Any questions on our Calendar section or anything else we’ve covered so far?

15 Speakers Bureau So again, here is the Speakers Bureau and the link where you can suggest a speaker.

16 Speakers Bureau Here I searched for curriculum development and from the list of speakers who had this search term in their profile I selected Pat James, from the Online Education Initiative. So if you attended an speaker event and wanted to reach out to that speaker to get more information on their work, or to have them speak an event, this is how you would go about it.

18 Learn Academy Embracing a wider focus on learning means shifting from a business-centric to learner-centric approach. It means not just focusing on push, but providing tools for learners to pull learning when and where its convenient for them. This requires giving up some control and providing more opportunity and freedom to the learner, which requires a more personalized approach to learning.
