Cultural background: Turkish Muslim Family’s socioeconomic status: Dad – does labour work, pay is enough to get by. Mum – home, household tasks. Financially supported by centrelink. Sinan’s older brother – Is studying part time and works full time in I.T, he gives money to his parents. Sinan attends and Islamic school and works casually. He is also financially supported by centrelink as well, as is hours are low at work. The family live in Auburn and are trying to pay off their house. Both his parents are in their mid forties.

Comparison of Statistics and Sinan
ABS Sinan Between August % of mothers with children 15 years and under took on paid work. (ABS Mothers and employment from 1996 – 2006, 2007) Sinan’s mum stays at home to complete household duties and does not work. There were about just over 5% of males aged between that were involved in risky drinking (Australian social trends Criminal courts collection ABS, 2008) Sinan although having his friends influence him to a certain extent, he is not involved in any under age drinking. 72% of people employed were more likely to be involved in physical activities (Participation in sports and physical recreation Australia ABS, ). Sinan plays soccer and works on a weekly basis. The divorce rate in 2007 was 49.3%. These failed marriages had children under the age of 18 (Divorces involving children ABS, 1997). Sinan’s parents have been married for almost 20 years and still happily married. In Auburn 54.9 of residents speak Arabic as a second language (Jupp ABS, 1995). Sinan’s family speaks Turkish at home but because of his religion he does hold some Arabic vocabulary. 17% of smokers started at the age of 15, 15% who have quit also started at that age (National Health Survey High risk factors: Tobacco use ABS, 2006) Although Sinan’s friends have not influenced him to drink he does on the other hand smoke. 16% of women aged 45 – 54 were at higher risk of anxiety (Health status: mental health ABS, 1997) Sinan’s mum has previously had anxiety. It comes and goes with life situations accordingly.
