What You Need to Know There is no parts book that will identify the steering pump on any given vehicle. The part number however is stamped on some steering pumps. This presentation will show you how to locate that part number and help you identify the correct pump without a part number It is imperative that you use the correct pump because over 75% of the steering problem you encounter are caused by not using the correct pump. BAB is the only re-manufacturer with more than one location. BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved

Identify the Volume Volume takes space. The higher the volume the more space needed. You must determine the correct volume. To do so you must remove the pump from the reservoir. Turn the pump over so you can see the torque nut and ….. BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved

Collect Information Again we collect information. We need to know: Shaft Type Rotation Mounting Port Size Cam Size List the information in the order noted above. Write down your information as if it were a part number. BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved
19
A - Identify the Shaft Type
Identify the shaft type from the chart. Write down the number that identifies your shaft type. Let’s say we have a drilled, key retained shaft, so we put down A = 1 BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved December 2004

B - Identify the Rotation
B – Rotation either C/W CC/W The rotation is found cast into the base of the pump. If it is not marked the rotation is C/W BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved
21
B - Identify the Rotation
B – Rotation C/W CC/W Let’s use C/W so write down B = 1 BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved
22
C – Identify the Mounting
C – Mounting Write down the number that identifies the mounting Un-drilled Drilled Let’s use # 1 un-drilled and write down C = 1 1. 2. BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved
23
D – Identify the Port Size
We need to know the size of the port. Not the threaded or fitting size. The PORT size The port is the area in red BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved December 2004
24
D – Identify the Port Size
Measure the port size by inserting the DRIVE END of a drill bit into the port. You have seven choices 1.= 13/64 2.= 3/16 3.= 11/64 4.= 5/32 5.= 9/64 6.= 1/8 7.= 7/64 BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved
25
D – Identify the Port Size
We determine the port size to be #3 or 11/64 So we write down D = 3. To this point we have identified A – The shaft type = 1 B – The rotation = 1 C – The mounting = 1 D – The Port size = 3 This gives us an partial assembly # of 1113 Now we determine the …… BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. 26
E – Identify the Cam Size
The cam size is determined by measuring from the end of the front cover arrow A and the beginning of the end cover arrow B Cam Size 1.75 = A 2.25 = B A B BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved
27
BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved
The Assembly Number Add the Cam Size letter (A or B) to the assembly number of 1113 A = 1.75 B = 2.25 We will use: A for 1.75 Our new assembly # is 1113A BAB Steering Hydraulics, Inc. Copyright © 2017 All Rights Reserved
