2 What is CELDT ? California English Language Development Test

3 Who must take the CELDT? Education Code Section [a] requires that all students (TK-12) whose primary language in not English, based on the results of the Home Language Survey (HLS) take the CELDT.

4 What is the purpose of the CELDT?
The CELDT has three purposes: To identify students who are limited English proficient (LEP) To determine the overall level of English proficiency and performance level in 4 language domains To measure and assess the progress of LEP students in acquiring English language and literacy skills

6 Reclassification Process
Students in grades 3-12 are eligible to be considered for Reclassification if they meet the minimum requirements determined by the state of California and the criteria established by IUSD.

7 Reclassification Criteria
IUSD criteria for reclassification is as follows: 1. Annual CELDT results indicate, A). Overall score of Early Advanced (4) or Advanced (5) AND B). a score of Early Advanced (4) or Advanced (5) in the four skill areas - Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing Consistent performance at these levels is preferred

8 Reclassification Criteria
CAASPP - Smarter Balanced Assessments in English Language Arts The results of the California standardized assessment indicates proficient levels of achievement in English Language Arts Standard Met 3 Standard Exceeded 4

9 Reclassification Criteria
IUSD Local Assessments STAR Renaissance: Above 40 percentile Literacy Performance Assessment: Must meet grade level benchmarks Other District Assessments: Must meet grade level benchmarks Teachers evaluate student performance and concur with the recommendation to reclassify

10 Reclassification Process
Parents/Guardians concur with the recommendation to reclassify The form is signed by the parents, the administrator or administrator designee and the EL Coordinator. The form is returned to the school before the deadline.

11 School Year Timeline Eligibility for reclassification is determined in the Spring of for students in grades 4-12 Students in 3rd grade will be considered for Reclassification in the fall of after SBAC scores are received Specific questions regarding the reclassification criteria can be directed to the school's EL Coordinator.
