I always liked to write. I joined the yearbook staff and wrote the class poem, which was read aloud the last day of school.
Our assistant principal: “I’ve been waiting 27 years for something like that” as he cried in front of me.

5. FREELANCE TO JOB
Started freelancing for the Cecil Whig newspaper in Elkton, Md.
I rode my scooter down a highway, even in snow, to cover sporting events.
After graduation, the experience landed me a job there.

After two years of covering sports, I moved back to the Lehigh Valley to earn my teaching certification …
