A drug is anything a person puts into their body that affects the brain, mood, thought, and perception. A drug can be inhaled, swallowed, injected or even absorbed through the skin. Some drugs are illegal, such as marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, or cocaine. Others are legal, such as alcohol, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and even household products like aerosol sprays, glue, or cleaning fluid. What Is Drugs

What Is Drug Addiction Addiction is a chronic, often relapsing, brain disease that causes compulsive drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences to the individual who is addicted and to those around them. Drug addiction is considered a brain disease because the abuse of drugs leads to changes in the structure and function of the brain.

Things to remmber Drugs can be more harmful when the people taking them don't know much about them. There are more deaths from the ‘legal’ drugs like alcohol and tobacco than there are from illegal drugs. - Even with ‘perfect’ parenting some young people experiment with drugs.

Summery Facts about drugs can protect against drug abuse. Legal drugs, such as alcohol and tobacco, kill more people than illegal drugs. Tobacco (smoking cigarettes) kills more people than any other drug. Illegal drugs including heroin, cannabis, ecstasy and amphetamines can have unknown or dangerous ingredients. Mixing drugs, especially with alcohol, can be fatal.
