CPIM Update: The Reconfiguration
The reconfigured CPIM is coming next quarter! Encourage members to take the Basics exam now! It will be valid as “Part 1” of the updated CPIM.

Longer time to certification
Updated CPIM Program – How does it affect you? Legacy CPIM Updated CPIM BSCM CPIM Part 1 MPR Longer time to certification SMR ECO DSP CPIM Part 2 Bob: The work place and work-life balance are very different today than they were when the CPIM exams were first released in the mid-70’s. Over the decades, the number of CPIM exams have gone from 4 to 5 to 6, but you only had to pass 5. At one point, there were 7 exams. In order to make the program simpler and more focused, we will be reducing the number of exams required from five to two, significantly reducing the amount of time it takes to earn the CPIM. Shorter time to certification

CPIM Transformed for Today’s Busy Professionals
Prepare for and pass only 2 exams, CPIM Part 1 and CPIM Part 2 to earn the CPIM credential. Updated format delivers the same CPIM knowledge and skills in a focused program to meet the training needs of today’s busy supply chain professionals. Streamlined certification experience gets you certified faster. Simplified and focused study materials condenses the time and effort it takes to prepare for the CPIM exam. The new CPIM Learning System is a proven APICS certification preparation method that combines reading materials with online practice tests and tools. Bob: The new exams will be called Part 1 & Part 2, and will cover the same body of knowledge that the current CPIM covers, but in a more streamlined and focused way. There will be new Learning Systems with extensive online quizzes, flashcards, videos and a practice exam. The Learning Systems can be used in either a classroom or as self-study.

Take the Exam Exam offered across the globe
Pearson VUE test centers around the world Decide when to take the exam Registration always open On demand testing Purchase the exam Schedule and take the exam Legacy BSCM exam: 3 hours, 105 questions New Part 1 & Part 2 exams: 3 1/2 hours, 150 questions Results delivered instantly at test center Lisa: Exams are delivered worldwide nearly every calendar day of the year at Pearson VUE test centers. Individuals immediately receive their score at the test center after completing the exam and will know if they passed or failed. I suggest scheduling the exam when you begin your training and instruction to ensure a higher level of success in meeting your certification objective. In general, we have found that candidates who test within 3 months of completing their instruction have a much higher success rate in passing the exam. The legacy Basics exam will be available through January 7, 2018 is one 3 hour 105 question test and the new Part 1 & Part 2 exams are each 3.5 hours and 150 questions in length and will be available beginning January 8, A good reason to take the legacy Basics exam now is that it’s shorter in length than the newly configured exam.

Financial Incentive Current CPIM Part 1
Courseware: $115 (Member) vs. $395 (Member) Exam: $190 (Member) vs. $495 (Member) Total: $ $890 Total Member Savings: Minimum of $585, if you start now! The Basics exam is a great value and available through 1/7/18 and the new CPIM Part 1 and Part 2 Learning Systems will be available in the Fall. Passing Basics will count for Part 1 of the new configuration! Bob: Here’s another good reason to start with Basics now, before the reconfiguration: Depending on the learning options you choose, you’ll save a minimum of $585 dollars! The price structure is changing for the new reconfigured CPIM; to earn the certification, the overall cost will be about the same, in fact, for some of our international candidates, it will be less. However, where the value of the certification had previously been spread among 5 exams, the value is now spread between 2 exams in the new configuration which increases the cost of each exam. This is also true for the enhanced Learning Systems. The Basics exam will be available through 1/7/2018, and the new CPIM Part 1 and Part 2 Learning Systems will be available in the early fall of 2017. Note that passing the current Basics of Supply Chain exam will count as a substitute for the new CPIM Part 1 exam. Lisa, can you give our listeners some tips for taking the exam successfully?

APICS Academic Initiatives Historically
The stewardship of the academic strategy has been decentralized and not focused within any one APICS department We have engaged with students, primarily through chapters, faculty at colleges and universities. Over the course of time, APICS and its related organizations have funded scholarships, supported case competitions and student chapters, and provided conference programming, student membership, and even student credentialing.
17
APICS Academic Initiatives Historically
APICS has been opportunistic in acquiring academic partners, resulting in limited partner expansion in the academic arena. In 2016, APICS began development of establishing academic partners in higher education as well as expanding beyond higher education into elementary and secondary education through support of SC STEM.
18
APICS Academic Mission
Over the last several years, an existing supply chain talent gap has been widely reported. The basis for these reports include: Corporations reporting that it can be difficult to find the right individuals to fill open positions. Local workforce development projections that supply for specific jobs within the supply chain does not meet current demand. Increasing awareness of supply chain in general, as well as filling the pipeline of students pursuing careers in supply chain, which is fundamental to APICS’s success in achieving its purpose of improving economies and improving lives. As a result, APICS is restructuring its organization to better serve the Academic related initiatives and align our growing membership strategies.
19
Academic & Membership Development Mission
Support APICS strategic priorities related to membership and workforce development, while better serving the academic community. Build awareness of APICS and the supply chain profession resulting in the growth in the number of students pursuing careers in supply chain management.
