Proposition To reach SDG 6 and SDG1 in rural areas, it is more cost-effective to use water subsidies for Family wells than for Communal wells

80% of the unserved live in rural areas, often small communities High cost/cap for communities of <250 people ( $) A solution?.. Supported Self-supply Improve existing, make new dug / drilled wells Possible with SMARTechs, $/well, 60m deep

3 Examples family wells in Zimbabwe. Windlass family wells in Bolivia. EMAS wells,pumps fam. Ethiopia,Uganda, Baptist “Water clubs” families,Nicaragua, Tanzania. Rope pumps Family wells increase incomes $/yr (Nic. Tz.) Advantage Family systems compared to Communal Families invest, do maintenance, share water Impr. family well = SDG6 + SDG2 (food) + SDG1 (poverty)

4 Suggestions Support family wells (recharge+pump+water filter)
Use “the family power”. (labour, material) NGOs, Governments support 30$/cap. (For pump, filter, training).This is 30% of the total cost, family does rest Marshall plan for capacity building. 3 Ts Supply chains of SMARTechs. Train the local private sector via Vocational training. Pilots via WET Centres, SMART Centres,
