EQ: How can Folio Writing help me as a writer? Today I will learn how a writing assessment helps me improve as writer. Draw the Word Splash from the board in your Sourcebooks. Add pictures or more words to the Word Splash about what it part means to you. Focus Standard: ELACC7W10-Write routinely over extended and/or short time frames for a range of discipline

Folio Writing Today you will begin the first portion of Folio Writing.
This is a 100-minute, mock writing assessment that will prepare you for the 8th grade writing exam next year and future writing test like high school graduation. It will be administered over the next three days, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as needed. Begin at 9:20 am, 1st :20 pm, 4th :30 p.m., 5th :30 p.m., 6th Clear your desk of all items except for two sheets of paper and a pen or pencil.

We will now read from the next chapter in Forged by Fire. Before we do so, what happened last time? Word Splash: How do the words in the Word Splash indicate the mood of the story?

Work Period Let’s look at pg.11 (Forged by Fire) see how Sharon Draper creates a distressed mood (worried, sad, or anxious) in the last paragraph. What image is created in your mind after reading that paragraph? What do you smell? What sounds ring through your ears? Turn to Reader’s Journey Pg. 73 Let’s discuss the definition of mood Pg. 72 “Heart of a Chief” Mark up the text Let’s discuss! Now complete the description (At least 3 sentences) Answer #2 independently Let’s share!
