Sax Facts The Saxophone (sax) sax is part of the woodwind family.
The sax was invented in 1840 by Adolphe Sax in Belgium. Most saxes are made from brass and have a single reed mouthpiece, similar to the clarinet. There are 4 types of sax: Alto and Tenor are the most common, but there are also Soprano (the smallest) and Baritone (the largest). The sound is mostly used in both classical and jazz music

Famous Saxophone Players
John Coltrane John Coltrane played both tenor and alto saxophones, praticising hours every day. His most famous recording is 'A Love Supreme' Charlie 'Bird' Parker Charlie Parker was the inventor of a style of jazz known as 'bebop' Wayne Shorter He played with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in the 1950s and Weather Report in the 1970s and 1980s Grover Washington Junior Grover Washington Junior played in a jazz-funk-soul style in the 1970s and 1980s
