Balance within art…. Visual Balance- art that can be seen rather than weighed. Balance plays a part of helping art work to look aesthetically pleasing. Aesthetic- Eye pleasing or beautiful to the viewer.

Dividing artwork to create balance
All artworks have….. Central dividing axis - splits the artwork in half. Horizontal Axis- cuts the artwork in half horizontally so that both top and bottom sides match up. Vertical Axis- cuts the artwork in half vertically so that the left and right sides match up.

Two categories of balance:
FORMAL INFORMAL Formal Balance- occurs when equal or very similar elements are placed on the opposite sides of a central axis Informal Balance- occurs when objects and images are asymmetrical within the artwork.

Formal Balance Symmetrical Balance- occurs when two images are the same or identical on both sides of the central axis. PHOTOGRAPHY

Quality and Expression with Balance
Formal balance -is often used by the artist wants to express calmness, stability, and peace within heir artwork. Informal balance- is often used when artist create landscapes and abstract paintings because it is very asymmetric in design. Both are used to provide unity and harmony among works of art, depending upon the artist and the message they would like to convey would be the type of balance they would use.
