6. VVT Web Portal
The aim of VVT information portal of SAS is to provide information about possibilities to use high performance computing available for the research and scientific workers of Slovak academy of sciences. At the time, SAS does not dispose of any supercomputer, and it aims to use supercomputers abroad until National supercomputer centre will be created.
Another possibility is to use computer clusters connected in grid infrastructure, such as EGEE. Research workers of SAS can acquire access to high-performance clusters in Europe by membership in virtual organizations.

VVT information portal of SAS gives comprehensive information about computing possibilities.
For beginner users, the VVT portal provides flash animation of personal certificate requirement demonstration and flash animation of importing personal certificate into a browser in GENIUS–GILDA environment, …
VVT information portal also brings actual information about related events, e.g. conferences, workshops, seminars, courses, etc. and news releases related to grids.

Ústav informatiky Slovenskej akadémie vied (ÚI SAV) sa tento rok na jar podieľal na rýchlom vyhľadaní zlúčenín schopných blokovať činnosť jedného z enzýmov na povrchu chrípkového vírusu vtáčej chrípky H5N1. A nebol to prvý ani jediný prínos tohto pracoviska pre chod gigantického svetového laboratória, ktoré prostredníctvom gridových technológií umožňuje vedcom na celom svete pracovať naraz na obrovskom množstve počítačov.
Ústav informatiky je už dlhoročnou renomovanou súčasťou celosvetovej gridovej infraštruktúry. A hoci aj pre tento ústav platí, že doma nik nie je prorokom, vo svete má cveng nielen vo vedeckých kruhoch, ale aj v priemyselnej, biomedicínskej či ekologicko-ekonomickej praxi. Pozornosť mu venujú aj zahraničné médiá, elektronické nevynímajúc.
ÚI SAV je totiž súčasťou celosvetového virtuálneho pracoviska, ktoré umožňuje používateľom gridových technológií využívať obrovskú výpočtovú kapacitu veľkého množstva počítačových pracovísk. Okrem toho, že záujemcom o služby vie na riešenie ich úloh zabezpečiť optimálny prístup, manažuje ich tak, aby využili gridové technológie, ktoré sú pre nich najefektívnejšie a najekonomickejšie.
V projekte EGEE je napríklad certifikačnou autoritou pre celé Slovensko jeden z pracovníkov UI SAV. Používateľ gridových technológií, ktorý ešte nie je na takej úrovni, že by sa mohol stať súčasťou ozajstnej virtuálnej organizácie, kde sa riešia závažné úlohy, sa môže prihlásiť do VOCE, testovacej Virtuálnej organizácie centrálnej Európy. Pomôcť mu pritom môže práve ÚI SAV.

Do hľadania účinného lieku proti vtáčej chrípke sa zapojili aj vedci zo Slovenskej akadémie vied – konkrétne Ústav informatiky. Ten spolupracoval na rýchlom vyhľadaní zlúčenín, ktoré by dokázali zablokovať činnosť jedného z enzýmov na povrchu vírusu H5N1. Svojimi počítačmi ústav prispel do vytvorenia veľkého počítačového prostredia, v ktorom sa zadaná úloha riešila.

Grid for Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Challenges
can be considered a successful event in that it has gained interest not only of the targeted audience from pharmaceutical and biomedical companies, hospitals, medical research and universities and informatics, but also of the governmental decision and policy makers.
In short time, we will organize a meeting with a possible future industry partner interested in medical imaging - PET Centrum BIONT, a.s. (private biomedical firm).
Another promising contact is from the field of chemical terrorism prevention and elimination of consequences of chemical and biological attack on the population.
Discussions on possible future collaboration with National Health Information Centre of the Slovak Republic are going on.
IISAS is preparing a proposition of a national grid infrastructure project, in which partners from different application areas will be included. Some of the most perspective application areas seem to be bioinformatics, eHealth, etc.
More detailed information on standards used in medical imaging and their accessibility and usage in EGEE infrastructure would be helpful for us in these activities.
