Humble: “low lying, to make low”
Humility is the application of this principle to ourselves. “The state or quality of being humble, absence of pride or self-assertion” Translated from tapeinophrosune, a combination of the Greek words for “humble” and “mind.” “having a humble opinion of oneself; a deep sense of one’s (moral) littleness; modesty, humility, lowliness of mind” (Thayer).

God Demands Humility The nature of God requires us to humble ourselves before Him. We cannot come unto God without first humbling ourselves (Matt. 18:1-4).

Jesus came in the form of a bondservant, not a King. He never demanded service (Matt. 20:28), but gave Himself entirely in service to mankind. John 13:4-17 Jesus took on the role of the lowest ranking house slave to teach His disciples that greatness is found in humility.
