The Three Concepts Public Sector: refers to those activities that are regulated by government (State). Market: it is made up of consumers and enterprises. These two elements meet and interact in the market. Third sector: Such is not the only relationship that exists. There are companies engaged in the social economy. These nonprofit organizations have different characteristics.

The relationship of the Market, State and the 3rd sector.
We have needs that in most cases are covered by enterprises understood in the traditional concept of enterprise. For those companies, the main goal is to get economical profits. However there are more types of enterprises. For example, there are special enterprises devoted to Social Economy.

Example of a relationship between the three sectors: ‘City hall’
City of Lodz supports projects that support the development of the city Unique system where inhabitants, NGO’s and volunteers can apply funding for their own projects Inhabitants will vote to choose the projects that will get funding This year over 900 projects apply for funding and 47 were chosen (city gives 20 milj. Zloty to different projects )

TO WSZYSTKO. PO ANGLIELSKU : This are the most popular projects which were chosen to get the funding ( one hundred twenty/nine thousand and eight) inhabitants voted on projects. The animal shelter and Wi-fi connection to the city center got most votes. All in all 47 projects were selected to get the city funding.

Social Economy There are enterprises that encourage social changes proposing an economic alternative to capitalism. These enterprises are obtaining in fact good economic results. The main difference from traditional enterprises is that they invest their profits in people and their communities.

Social Economy in European Union
They are flexible and innovative - Social Economy enterprises are being created to meet changing social and economic circumstances Most are based on voluntary participation, membership and commitment. Social Economy entities spring from the economic and social needs of their members. There are certain common characteristics shared by Social Economy entities: Their primary purpose is not to obtain a return on capital. They are, by nature, part of a stakeholder economy, whose enterprises are created by and for those with common needs, and accountable to those they are meant to serve They are generally managed in accordance with the principle of "one member, one vote"

Hotel Training centre for people with mental health problems. When it started it had 20 people being treated but now there is 60 people on this rehabilitation program. Offers prepared training for different roles For example, Receptionist, Rural management, Kitchen assistant, gardeners and room service. Their impact on social problems The people aren’t alone with their problems. They offer support for the unemployed. Activation of the socially excluded.

The 3rd Sector Voluntary work. Participation of its members must depend on the free will of themselves and not external impositions. Moreover, there is also a significant degree of participation of volunteers (people who provide unpaid work). Self-management. Formally organized. formally structured organized independent of the State are not profit oriented administered independently

Visit to Orange Foundation Foundation that doesn’t get money from the city Andrzej Szymborski finds monetary and materialistic support for renovating buildings For example renovating the childrens’ ward at hospital 40 volunteers participated in the project Renovation was done in one weekend, the whole project took 3 months

Conclusion Nevertheless the sustainability of the welfare state is under debate: economical crisis, aging population and change on demography. There are fewer resources but the needs of the people are increasing. Then the Third sector becomes an alternative plausible solution. The Third sector included a new kind of originations

The Social Economy is important because it:
Contributes to efficient competition in the markets Offers the potential for job creation and new forms of entrepreneurship and employment Is largely founded on membership-based activities Meets new needs Favours citizen participation and voluntary work Enhances solidarity and cohesion Contributes to the integration of the economies of the candidate countries

As we can see from the organisations we have visited…. ‘City Hall’ – Offering the people choice of what projects that they would like to happen. KŁOS – Provides retraining and rehabilitation for those who need it. The Orange Orgisation – Provides the children that they help with more and better places to become well.
