Performance Expectations and Qualifications for Goodville Mutual board officers: Persons who have high integrity. Persons with leadership experience in business or organizations. Persons who bring skills helpful in setting direction for the company. Persons who have analytical and problem solving skills. Persons who have strong team-building skills Person who can operate independently and have the capacity and courage to ask the right questions. Be dedicated to the future of the company. Regular attendance and constant communication with company and Board. Trust Vision to look ahead. Life style of caring Someone who stays in close communication with the company operations. Someone who can summarize and present an agenda of decisions that the Board needs to make (not management decisions). Needs to be on the cutting edge of the insurance industry and investment world. Stay in touch with President to be aware of company status and emerging issues. Prepare for, attend and participate in committee and board meetings. Work with President to focus strategic issues for Board attention. Lead the board in assessing and improving individual & collective performance. Regular attendance at all meetings. Able to make decisions at macro level on policy issues. Broad management experiences or experience as director in corporate or profit sectors. Understand financial statements Expertise in respective areas: Finance & Investments for Treasurer, written & verbal communication for secretary. Strong commitment to the company’s vision. Strong commitment to the company’s values. Personal integrity in all areas of life. Ability to contribute by speaking and listening to others. Willingness to change personal views with group interaction. Focus on what’s best for the organization. Knowledgeable about current industry trends. Competent in people skills Able to see “the big picture” Awareness of business climate – not only insurance arena To work in harmony with all officers. To properly declare the full and correct information. (Do not overstate or understate facts) Leading Board meetings in an effective way. Being knowledgeable about issues presented. Performance Expectations and Qualifications for Goodville Mutual board members: Persons of the highest integrity who can represent Goodville to a wide array of constituents. Persons who analytical and problem-solving skills. Persons who are visionary and can help set long term direction. Persons who are people-oriented (good human relations skills) who can relate well to their Board peers and to key staff as appropriate. Familiar with and dedicated to the company. Have some “special” gift, which can be used. Have a “willingness” to serve. Do not let this be a “part-time” position. Concern of Board officers A person will share connection & policies Share convictions on investment To read and stay current on the insurance industry. To participate on committees and be ready to share ideas and concerns. Able to present views and experience from other types of business. Prepare for Board meetings by reading materials. Attend and participate in Board meetings. Support the President/CEO Think strategically about the future. Experience in “useful” sectors to provide appropriate strengths in Board composition. Is willing to confront the status quo based on principles and personal beliefs. Strong personal faith and commitment. Able to discern reports and understand company directions as reported. Be a positive representative of Goodville in the Mennonite Community. Able to bring broad perspective to meetings – business, church, marketing, etc. To put forth effort to retain an active interest in our company Try to work in harmony with our entire board Try to promote the company in their community and among their friends.
