P.E. stands for Physical Education
Welcome to Hampton Elementary Charter School Physical Education Program P.E. stands for Physical Education The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skill and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.

What is Physical Education
One of the components of education PE has its own tools and methods Prepares for success in the future Equips students with information about health and fitness Teaches sport and games Provides opportunity to improve skills Gives suggestions and teach skills on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle Provide opportunities for appropriate social interaction, cooperation, competition, etc.

P.E. Rules and Procedures
BE READY Tennis shoes only Dress appropriately for activities Wear a belt to hold your pants in place Long pants over your shoes or a safety hazard BE RESPONSIBLE Respect your teacher-classmates and equipment No food/chewing gum in PE! BE RESPECTFUL AND SAFE Follow directions the first time they are given Stay on task Be cooperative Team work is the key to be successful in PE Water bottles are not allowed in the gym unless you have a doctor’s excuse

The students are asked to write the infraction (s) on a piece of paper. Contact parents if the behavioral problems continue to exist. Inform administration regarding the behavioral issues. Students following the PBIS guidelines, will receive Hornet Bucks

Leisure Day Class can be rewarded with a fun day, which is a choice of activities, for consistently good behavior, sportsmanship, and group cooperation.

Discuss activities Homework-participate in activities daily for 60 minutes Injuries-please inform Coach Watkins of any injuries in the gym-injuries from home we need a note Illness-bring a note from home if you are sick

Attire Students are required to wear tennis shoes to every gym class. When students do not wear tennis shoes, he/she will not be allowed to participate in physical education. Sandals, flip flops, dress shoes, high heels, boots, heelies are unacceptable Shorts, comfortable pants warn on waist T-shirts, sweatshirts Safety is our number one priority

Health Conditions If you have any health conditions that will limit your participation in PE, please ask your parents to write a note or complete the physical education form I will be sending home.

Taking assigned spot and stretching for lesson introduction. Absentees Lesson introduction

Alternating intensity of basic movement. Basic conditioning Stretch

PE Partner Randomly drawn, assigned by teacher, chosen
Approach another student. Ask: “Would you like to be my partner today?” Answer: “Yes, thank you” or “Thank you for asking, but I would like to be “Susie’s” partner today.” Sit down together.

To Solve Disagreements
Discuss, negotiate, ask for other people’s help, take turns, use game solutions: Paper, Rock, Scissors Odd, even

Homework Exercise every day 30-60 minutes
In addition to homework given by the teacher, chose your own activity Keep a log of activities Try to involve as many members of your family as possible Do not skip homework even on weekends

Injuries Pain is a human’s natural protecting mechanism .
After minor incident, pain lasts only a few minutes. Inform teacher, if injury pain is severe and persists a long time. Report every case of bleeding. Please report all injuries especially head injuries.

Illness Participation in PE is mandated by law.
Only a doctor can excuse students from long term participation. Parent can write an excuse from gym in case of common illnesses such as: flu, diarrhea, etc. In case of sudden illness, student can receive excuse for your classroom teacher or PE instructor.

Physical Education Standards
Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings. What are PE Standard? Standards are statements that define what students should know and be able to do upon completion of specific levels of instruction as well as how they will respond to their environment. Standards serve as a guide for excellence and are differentiated from minimum competencies or outcomes because they describe the challenging goals for expanding and improving education. Standards Learning Domains: Psychomotor-demonstrate body control and basic movement patterns Cognitive-demonstrate knowledge and comprehension of the units/skills taught Affective-cooperation and responsible behavior
