5 Advising in Your First Year
Each quarter, you are assigned a PIN that is only deleted by meeting with your FSEM advisor PIN deletion must occur BEFORE registration week Attend a required scheduled meeting (not a drop-in) with a Daniels academic advisor during your first year to develop your graduation plan

6 Advising in Sophomore Year and Beyond
PIN is no longer deleted by FSEM advisor PIN deletion must occur BEFORE registration week As a Daniels student you will meet with an assigned Daniels academic advisor

Seek out your advisor for general and registration questions Read your Degree Audit every quarter Understand your degree and major requirements Check the Registrar’s website for advising and registration dates ( Read all s from Daniels Undergraduate Programs Prepare for and attend PIN deletion appointments prior to registration week

Definition of a quarter credit hour What does the quarter system look like? To keep in mind about the quarter system: Time management is critical!

12 Course Loads Average course load Full-time status and tuition
Plan to register for at least 16 credits total, or 4 classes (FSEM plus 3 other classes) If you drop a class, would still be a full-time student at 12 credits/3 classes Dropping below full-time status could impact your financial aid package, on-campus housing, and/or DU health insurance Deadlines for adding or dropping classes can be found on the Registrar’s website Dropping past week 1 incurs a “W” on your transcript Full-time status and tuition Full time status tuition flat rate is for credits Pay per credit over 18 credit hours 20-21 hours requires approval – cannot do this your first quarter

14 Business Specific Common Curriculum Classes
AI-Natural MATH 1200 – Business Calculus OR MATH 1951 – Calculus 1 SI-Society ECON 1020 – Introduction to Micro/Macro 1 C- minimum grade required to pass these classes, and all classes taught through Daniels (D- minimum grade to pass in other common core or minor classes outside of Daniels)

15 Course Sequencing Daniels Curriculum must be closely followed to stay on track for graduation Example: INFO MATH 1200/1951  INFO 1020 Students may not enroll in courses until they have met all prerequisite requirements Curriculum includes co-curricular requirements

16 Microsoft Office Certification
Required for all students Will have lab with INFO 1010 & 1020 Do NOT need to register for separately unless you transferred in one of these credits INFO 1010: Excel INFO 1020: Word & PowerPoint If you have transferred in credit for INFO 1010 or 1020 you may take lab only (INFO 1011 or 1021)

22 Selecting Schedules No perfect schedule Come up with at least THREE alternative schedules Be flexible: this is just the first of multiple schedules you’ll be choosing Balance major, minor, Common Curriculum, and elective classes 2017 curriculum is different – do not rely on older friends’ advice for scheduling

Admission to Daniels

25 Admission to Daniels Three possible admission routes:
Direct admission upon application to DU Fast track admission – two full time quarters complete with 3.50 cumulative GPA and MATH 1200 or 1951 passed Secondary admission Requirements and time to graduation are the same for all students regardless of admission route

26 Secondary Admission Students will need to take the prerequisite classes and complete co-requisite requirements (DPDP year 1 requirements, MOS certifications) Attend an information session so you are prepared for sophomore year More questions? Contact Janeen Todd
