The gender (masculine/feminine) and number (singular/plural) of an adjective has to agree with the gender and number of the noun it describes.
Esempio: Maria è alta.
Maria: proper noun of a person, feminine, singular.
È: 3rd person singular, verb to be
Alta: adjective, feminine, singular.
