The Standard Color Wheel
Red-Violet Violet Blue-Violet Blue Blue-Green Green Yellow Green Yellow Yellow-Orange Orange Red-Orange Re In 1666, Sir Isaac Newton performed a prism experiment in which he discovered that pure white light contains the full spectrum of colors--in effect, creating the world’s first color wheel. From there, philosophers, scientists, artists and designers have continued studying the components of color and its physical, psychological and philosophical effects.

Primary colors are red, yellow and blue.
Secondary colors - orange, green and violet — are created by mixing primary colors. Tertiary colors are a combination of a secondary color and a primary color next to it. They include yellow-orange, red-orange, red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green and yellow-green.
6
Monochromatic A color scheme using one color, and tints, tones and shades of that color.
7
Analogous A color scheme using colors next to each other on the color wheel. Two to Six Colors. Analogous colors are a palette of compatible color combinations that blend well together. They are neighbors on the color wheel. They tend to live harmoniously because they are relatives to each other. Note that even though these are very bright hues of 6 colors next to each other on the color wheel, that they are analogous.
