Pieces of the CareerScope System
Before you Install Permissions – Installation of the software requires full Administrator rights. If you do not have full Administrator rights to the computer (and/or the network), you will not be able to install the CareerScope Software. Older Versions of CareerScope (v7.2 or earlier) must be completely uninstalled from the system PRIOR to installing Version 10. Pieces of the CareerScope System Database – This is where all of the assessment data is stored. Management System – This is where the counselor, teacher, administrator, etc, can print reports, assign evaluation templates, and manage the database. Assessment Tasks – This is the actual assessment that the evaluee will complete. Before you install careerscope, you should be aware that you will need to have Full Administrator rights to the computer on which you are installing the Careerscope software. If you are installing to a network or shared drive, you will need full rights to that as well. If a network installation is what you plan to do, keep in mind that you will need to properly map each local workstation to the shared drive to which you are installing careerscope.

Standalone (Independent Workstation) Installation
Install it like this… If you want…. Put the CD ROM into your computer and select the STANDALONE INSTALLATION to install CareerScope onto the hard drive of your workstation (C:\CSCOPE). One computer that will be THE CareerScope computer. Evaluees will complete the assessment there AND I will be able to print reports and manage the database from there as well. If you want ONE computer that will be your careerscope workstation where clients will complete the assessment and the administrator will print reports and manage the database, then you want to do a STAND ALONE Workstation. To install CS as a standalone workstation, simply put the CareerScope software CD-rom into the cd-rom drive of your computer and run the installation. You will install Management system and Assessment tasks to the default directory, which will be C:\Cscope.

Network Installation 1 If you want… Install it like this…
One single database that will hold all of the data in a shared location. One or more individuals be able to complete the assessment at the same time* One or more counselors to be able to use the management system from their own workstations. To only install the database on your server. The CareerScope system to be networked in your LAN environment. *(depending upon number of licenses owned) Step 1. Install the Database to your Shared Drive. Step 2. On the counselor workstations, install the Management system and make sure it points to the database on the shared drive. Step 3. On the client workstations, install the Assessment tasks. Make sure the Assessment tasks point to the database on the shared drive. If you want to have your database shared by everyone, and you need to have more than one workstation with the Management system, then you will want to conduct Network install number 1. Start by installing the management system (including the database) to your Server or shared drive. Then, after mapping the server drive, install the Assessment tasks to the client workstations. Be sure that the tasks connects to the database on the server. Finally, on the counselor workstations, create shortcuts to the management system (the cscope_m.exe file) on the shared drive and then run the sysinstall file located in the Utilities folder on the CD.

Network Installation 2 If you want… Install it like this…
One single database that will hold all of the data in a shared location. One or more individuals be able to complete the assessment at the same time* One or more counselors to be able to access the management system from their own workstations. To install as much as possible onto the server, and less onto the local workstations. The CareerScope system to be networked in your WAN environment. *(depending upon number of licenses owned) Step 1. Install the Database and Management System to your Shared Drive. Step 2. On the counselor workstations, install a Link to the Management system and make sure it points to the Database and Management system on the shared drive. Step 3. On the client workstations, install the Assessment tasks. Make sure the Assessment tasks point to the database on the shared drive. If you want to have your database shared by everyone, and you only want one workstation with the Management system, then you will want to conduct Network install number 2. Start by installing the management system (including the database) to your counselor workstation. Then, launch the management system. Click on the DBF Operations menu and select Move Database. This will allow you to move your database to the Server or shared drive. Lastly, after mapping the server drive, install the Assessment tasks to the client workstations. Be sure that the tasks connects to the database on the server.

When conducting a NETWORK INSTALLATION:
Shared Drive components must be installed first. Local workstations must be properly mapped to the shared drive. Assessment Tasks must always be installed locally on the client workstation. Assessment Tasks must point to the correct DBFs folder on the network/shared drive. During the installation, the system may locate a database and ask if this is the database you wish to use….Make sure it is the Correct folder on the Correct DRIVE. When conducting either type of network installation, you must remember that the Assessment Tasks component MUST be installed locally on the client workstation. During the local install of the assessment tasks, you must ensure that the tasks are pointing to the correct folder where the database has been installed on the shared drive.

CareerScope User Permissions
ALL CareerScope Users must have the following folder permissions: Modify, Read & Write permissions to all CSCOPE folders (on both local and shared drives as appropriate); Full Control to the DBFs folders within the CSCOPE Folders Read permission to the Windows System folder on the local workstation.
