1 NGN Deployment for China Mobile
Qiang Wei The 4th CJK NGN Working Group Meeting June 24, 2005, Beijing

2 Agenda China Mobile Communication Corporation
Softswitch deployment in China Mobile Deployment on long-distance tandem Deployment on 3G R4 CS domain Deployment on IMS China Mobile’s Proposal

3 China Mobile Communication Corporation
Mobile communication operator The world’s largest mobile communication network The world’s most mobile communication users Provides: Mobile phone services Data services VoIP WLAN access …… GPRS, WAP, MMS,

4 Softswitch Deployment in China Mobile
Step1: Long-distance tandem softswitch Replacement to Class-4 trunking switches Step2: 3G R4 CS domain Replacement to Class-5 circuit-switch MSCs Step3: IMS-based NGN All IP Multimedia Access-Irrelevant Step by step!

5 Softswitch long-distance tandem network of China Mobile
On November 27, 2004, China Mobile completed the cut-off of the Softswitch network, the ever largest one in the world; The network is expected to carry provincial inter-network traffic across 31 provinces in China, with the total traffic equivalent to one-third of the traditional provincial network traffic. On the eve of Spring Festival, the traffic is 3 times higher than the average traffic. In such peak traffic, the network shows outstanding performance. The commercial application of the Softswitch long-distance tandem network of China Mobile proves the possibility of building a network with Softswitch technology. 17951: voip

8 IMS-based NGN-not only for mobile users
IMS solution of Huawei is based on hierarchical network structure. It consists of the following network layers: 1) Service application layer: Provides richer IP multimedia applications; 2) Service capability layer: Covers service capability sets required for the deployment of IP multimedia services, such as IM, Presence, HSS, GUP Server, DMS, and so on; 3) Session control layer: Covers SIP session dispatch and control functions and implements charging for each session. The session control layer makes the IMS network a distributed computer network. Since SIP is adopted as session control protocol, the session control layer supports the access-irrelevant capability. A-MG CF is mainly used to access traditional terminals; 4) Access and interworking layer: 5) Unified session control layer, enriches the access layer, facilitates the integration of multiple access technologies, and provides the most complete and all-around communication solution to end users.

9 IPI (IP Interworking) A GSMA project
Service layer Interworking for IMS based IP networks Service control Service based charging and balancing China Mobile is leading IPI trial in Asia IPI trial in Europe has completed Introduction

10 Our Proposals Further study on IMS-based NGN, including its application scenarios and deployment strategy in different countries. Push IMS to maturity and commercial use. Promote inter-working test of IMS.

11 Thank You!
