Implementation Timeline
2013: Adoption of the CA NGSS 2014: State Implementation Plan Adopted : Science Framework Development; anticipated adoption in September : CST 5, 8, 10 Science Assessment on 1998 CA Science Standards for ESEA* : Development of new CA NGSS-aligned assessment begins to meet ESEA requirements for science assessment : Pilot Test CA NGSS Assessment : Science Instructional Materials Field Test CA NGSS Assessment : Anticipated operational assessment of CA NGSS ESEA: Elementary Secondary Education Act: Federal Gov’t Reporting Mandate for NCLB * Dependent on the new revision of ESEA that is just now beginning at the federal level

Taking it Home: Action Plan
Think about what you learned over the past 2 days. What are 2-3 big ideas that you want to share with your district or school? What do you have in place that would enable you to build awareness around these ideas? Who are your supporters? Who are nay-sayers? What is your message? What support systems do you need to build awareness? How will you get them? What assistance do you need from your local providers (e.g., county offices, CSP, K-12 Alliance, CSTA) to help you in the awareness phase?
