3 New Zealand - SiSi Ministry of Education New Zealand is the newest Locale that intends to use/promote SIF! Current State No standards for student information Each school SIS has with its own data format. Information doesn’t easily “flow” with the students when they change schools. Time consuming process to collect data at new school. Largely based around phone calls, paper work etc. Ministry of Education (MoE) collects Data at the National Level. Data collection is performed periodically. Difficult to get hold of data in a manageable format. Considerable manual work to ensure sufficient quality of data. © Access 4 Learning Community

Student Information Sharing Initiative (SiSi) Goal Introduction of a centralised repository for core student information. Master information source for the student record and data collections by education agencies. School SIS systems will update the central repository by means of APIs defined centrally. The APIs and data model will be standardised. © Access 4 Learning Community

Drivers for SIF Open Integration Standard with: Well defined API using modern technologies. Well defined Infrastructure Scalable & Secure! Flexibility to use any data model Originated from the Education Sector Well established standard used in several countries. Australia’s Data Model is a close fit for the NZ requirements. No need to start from scratch but can leverage from many existing projects. © Access 4 Learning Community

9 New Zealand – SiSi (cont.)
Current Position Explore use cases for SiSi based on SIF 3 REST-based infrastructure. NZ is currently working informally with NSIP to evaluate the potential to use the SIF AU data model for the NZ education sector. Learning Services Architecture & SIF3 Data Hub pattern provides an excellent basis for communicating what MoE NZ aims to achieve with SiSi. © Access 4 Learning Community

Where can Australia help? Similar education systems / terminology Wanting to address similar problems. Overlapping vendor (and student) community. NSIP has established expertise and a community around SIF. NZ needs to develop maturity in this space and is seeking guidance and help: Learn from others to avoid mistakes. Tap into the extensive SIF 3 knowledge available in Australia. © Access 4 Learning Community
