Integrated Group Reading
a book-based, whole language intervention in which each lesson encompasses: a Preparation Stage: - talk for reading (story familiarisation) - a Lotto game (phonological-visual mapping – receptive vocabulary)

(2) a Collaborative Reading Stage: new material is read both individually and chorally in a mutually supportive way collaborative problem-solving emphasis on cadence, rhythm, and fluency

(3) a Consolidation of Phonic Skill Stage: playing an appropriately-levelled phonics game (matched with book level)

(4) a Revision and Consolidation Stage: playing a ‘Go Fish’ sentence game with phrases from the previous lesson’s book [ie this begins the following lesson] light-touch Recall and Comprehension checking while cards are being dealt

IGR materials Children become fluent beginner readers
by working systematically through a set of materials (books and games) that exemplify the methodology

In between IGR Lessons TAs hear the children read their new books individually and play individual or group Word Pelmanism – this helps in the consolidation of their new vocabulary

In between IGR Lessons The intervention itself lasts for 30 weeks but can be extended through the addition of IGR materials made for classroom reading books
