What’s Happening
What an impressive week! We have been learning so many ELA
skills since we have started school. We have been working on:
identifying rhyming words in stories and producing two words that rhyme
naming words that begin with the letters m and a, and writing those letters
identifying vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines, as well as writing them and finding them in letters
Sight words including I, can, see, me
(keep working at home on these)
Continue to work on your letters and sounds. I will be checking the ABC challenge soon.
No school Oct. 6th or 9th
PTA Mtg. on Oct. 16
Nursery Rhyme Olympics are on
Oct. 13th, wear red that day!

We are partnering with the Red Cross and collecting money for the hurricane relief efforts. Baggies will go home next week.
A Peek At What We Are Learning
Reading
Explored letters a and m in poems and songs, learned sight word “me” so we could read “All About Me” We read nursery rhymes and played silly games like leaving words that rhymed out and replacing words like our names. We continued with literacy centers where we cut up Humpty Dumpty words and put him back together again, listened to a story and wrote in our journal.
Writing
Every morning we use shared writing to find letters that are straight, curvy or both. We wrote books using the words, I can _________, and then we illustrated them! We are trying very hard to write vertical straight lines.
Math
This week was a great week to finish patterns and start number sense. We met “Zero the Hero” who has two jobs: to be nothing and to hold the place in some numbers. We looked at other representations of the number one and two. (dominoes, tally marks, dice, money and just pictures.) and started our number book. We started math centers.
