Graduated from State High in 1991 Graduated from Penn State in 1995 Received my Masters Degree in Reading in January 2014 Children: Ryan (senior) & Lauren (sophomore) I love traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with my family.

*Beginning the year district expectation – Level D End of year - Level I *Focus on accuracy, fluency, and comprehension *Building sight word recognition and decoding *Important for your child to have opportunities to read to self, read with someone, and listen to you read (all have a different purpose) *MOST OF ALL – reading should be an enjoyable experience *I do allow books from the classroom to go home to be enjoyed. Please help your child remember to return these to school when finished.

6 *Narrative, Informational and Opinion Writing
*Focus on telling your story (small moments) *Instruction is based on the Lucy Calkins writing resource *Big focus on getting ideas down on paper (with a quick sketch and words )

7 *Time spent on both using manipulatives and paper/pencil practice
*Focus on number patterns, addition/subtraction strategies, place value, geometry, measurement, and data *Time spent on both using manipulatives and paper/pencil practice *Working to build conceptual understandings, not just procedural steps *Focus on many ways to solve a problem and being able to communicate thinking

8 & Science Integrated Science and Social Studies units
*Great Pizza Mystery - plants, ingredients in pizza and where they come from *Going Green - recycling *Community Playground – construction/simple machines

10 *Reading – average 10 minutes a night if possible
*Sight words – depending on what your child needs, some may start to bring home sight word lists to practice at home *Math – learning addition and subtraction facts 0-20 with fluency is a goal at the primary level *Please make time for: playing, spending time outside, arts/crafts, exploring, sleeping and spending time together

*Please make sure you send an excuse in within three days of your child’s absence. Please put the excuse in your child’s folder. *Trip forms should be sent in prior to your trip. The secretary will notify you via when we have received your form.

12 *Please visit the district website for information regarding the volunteering policies for our district. All forms must be on file with the district and parents must be in the database before volunteering. *If you submitted all of your Clearances last year, you still must complete the Volunteer Policy and Procedure form. When you have everything submitted correctly, the Volunteer Office will notify you by (please provide your on the Volunteer form). *Lunch visits – You may visit your child at lunch without having clearances on file, please sign in at the office and meet us in the cafeteria

*Orders sent home about once a month. *Can either return the order with a check to the classroom OR order online. You can search by my name at or use the code H24C9
