SPP FIELDS SOC Overview
The FIELDS SOC allows the FIELDS SOC team and Science teams to: Efficiently command and control the FIELDS instrument, both during ground testing and on-orbit operations. Process and distribute FIELDS science data in a timely, accurate, and configuration-controlled fashion. Solar Probe Plus is an encounter-based mission: Command sequences will be optimized for each encounter and uploaded via the FIELDS SOC. Solar Probe Plus opportunities for telemetry downlink and command uplink are limited: For the FIELDS instrument suite, these resources will be managed through the FIELDS SOC.

FIELDS SOC S/C Level Testing
GSEOS provides APID binary files and data to Tmlib server Some subsystems use APID files to validate data, others use Tmlib Configuration similar to FIELDS TVAC

FIELDS MOC-SOC Activities
MOC-SOC connectivity test Test successfully performed w/FIELDS SOC at UCB 17 Jan 2017 Test successfully performed w/local FIELDS SOC at APL 22 Feb 2017 ISCF file delivered Received real-time telemetry from the MOC FIELDS SOC provided inputs to MOC/MOPS teams for support of upcoming activities Packet filter table: first ‘notional’ version provided, will provide final ‘commissioning’ version for MSIM2 before 14 Apr 2017 Real-time APID table: will provide before 14 Apr 2017 SPP Instrument Critical HK packet information Science planning inputs and feedback for Dry Run activity FIELDS personnel need NACI clearances Marc Pulupa (SOC Lead) Tim Quinn (GSE Lead)

FIELDS SOC Development Schedule
FIELDS SOC schedule will fulfill requirements prior to MSIM 3 (Jan 2017). FIELDS SOC makes use of already developed IDL software (SPEDAS/TDAS for display/analysis, MMS SITL tool for burst selection, IDL analysis routines from FIELDS subsystems) Applying calibrations which have been provided to the SOC from FIELDS subsystems Development effort consists largely of adapting existing analysis routines to produce data in a format compatible with Science Data Management Plan Details on outstanding requirements contained in following slides
10
SOC 02-03: FIELDS Calibration Coefficients
Subsystem Calibration Data Status AEB Specified in FIELDS1 CTM DCB DFB Calibration data and plots provided to SOC MAG Calibration data provided in MAG test report Preamplifiers Board level calibration data on FIELDS SVN site RFS Calibration data and plots on FIELDS SVN site SCM Calibrations to be delivered with FM SCM (same format as those delivered for EM) TDS Board level gain/phase curves measured in bench testing at UMN
11
SOC-04: Burst data FIELDS (and SWEAP) SOC will adapt MMS EVA burst data display and selection tool
12
SOC-07: Quicklook Data FIELDS SOC will provide quicklook plots on the FIELDS webpage fields.ssl.berkeley.edu Quicklook plots made from L1-L2 data Low latency, used for burst data selection Example summary quick look plot using THEMIS data themis.ssl.berkeley.edu/summary
13
SOC-09: Delivering data to NASA
FIELDS will make L2+ data publicly available in ISTP-compliant CDF files in a directory on the SSL data server sprg.ssl.berkeley.edu/data Similar to THEMIS, MAVEN, STEREO, RBSP, Wind L1 data (engineering units) will be available in a separate directory on the same server, with access granted to other SPP teams All levels of data will be regularly backed up using standard SSL IT procedures
14
SOC-10: Displaying Shared Data Telemetry
FIELDS SOC is an active participant in shared science planning activities. These include the regularly scheduled SOC telecons as well as: MOC-SOC connectivity tests Science Planning Tool Requirements Review Orbit Planning Dry Run FIELDS SOC will use graphical and machine readable output of Science Planning tool to predict available telemetry, and participate in SWG/shared planning activities to determine telemetry allocations per orbit FIELDS SOC will monitor and display downlinked telemetry
15
SOC-11: Science Data Management Plan
Making publicly accessible ISTP-compliant CDF files is the primary FIELDS activity for demonstrating FIELDS compliance with SDMP As with SOC-09 requirement, implementation will be similar to previous UCB/SSL missions such as THEMIS, MAVEN, STEREO, RBSP, Wind
16
SOC-14 to SOC-21: Display and Analysis of Data
FIELDS SOC produced CDF files (see response to SOC-09) will be able to be plotted and analyzed using IDL-based analysis software (SPEDAS/TDAS) developed at UCB At left: example MAG display from FIELDS TVAC testing
17
SOC-22, 23, 24 See response to SOC-09
18
SOC-25: QA Matrix FIELDS SOC will comply with the QA Matrix by design
