Why do you usability problems happen?
Everyone has to make design decisions As the development develops Where should the button go? How should the button act? Assumptions are made about the users This acts just like X the users will know Our users all have Android, we're following the pattern library.

2016 Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development study
Over 200,000 people from 33 different countries to… Do easy tasks such as 1. use the reply all feature on . Do difficult tasks such as 2. schedule a meeting room with a scheduling application and determine a place and best time across several applications. Nielsen, J. (2016, November). If you are in San Jose or Kansas City, how?
Unmoderated Remote testing apps
5
Lean- "Design, build, launch, measure"
Build does not mean code. There are many tools to build an excellent interface. Test sketches (low fidelity) and prototypes (high fidelity)
6
Step 1: Define the problem
Design or Development Decision Test it on 2 or more users Assumption Go ask or observe 2 or more users Innovation, New product Test similar products on 2 or more users to see where the hiccups exist.
7
How to find the right users
Ask the development team, “who is your user?” The answer is not anyone. Ask the development team to fill in the blanks. Our product does ________ so _________ can __________. Our product does the primary purpose of the product so the primary user group can perform this user goal or fulfill this need. The more specific the product is and the more well defined the user group and the user goal the more successful the product is likely to be in the marketplace.

Step 3- Find the users and test
Coffee shop, Library I need help with, Can I buy about 10 min of your time Be informal, take notes. Ask lots of questions, why, why, why
9
Start the test This is a test of the app, not of you or your ability
1. General questions… Do you every use…. Where, when, why, does it give you any grief? What would you rather use, how long have you used it for? 2. Task questions… Can you do this, I want to see the problems. Do you mind if I take notes so I can share with the development team. 3. Thanks!! that was very helpful. What did you like best, what was the worst. Don’t get sales pitchey here.

Leading the participant.
The best tester is someone who cannot program and has no knowledge of the product. Its easy to bias the participant, to "show" them how to do something or give subtle cues or leading questions. "Do you like this color or that color better" "Do you think that the button should go over here or over there?"
