Metal Cutting By Martinus Bagus Wicaksono

2 Outline Conventional Machine tool CNC machine tool
Designing a mechanical system

3 Conventional Machine Tool
Milling Machine Used to create: Flat surface, holes, complex shape Turning Machine Used to create: Cylindrical shape

4 Conventional Machine Tool
Drilling Machine Used to create: Holes Welding Machine Used to create: Fix joint between 2 metals

5 Milling Milling is a metal removing, using a rotating cutter with one or more cutting teeth. The cutting tool is endmill cutter

6 Cutting Speed Where  N : RPM of the cutter
CS : Linear Cutting Speed of the material in m/min (see table) d : Diameter of cutter in mm

7 Turning A turning is a machine tool which turns cylindrical material, touches a cutting tool to it, and cuts the material. Types of cutting tool Side tool Cutting off tool Boring tool Cutting tool setup Some Products

8 Drilling Drilling is a cutting process that uses a drill bit to cut or enlarge a hole in solid materials Cutting tool is a twist drill

9 Welding Arc welding is a process that uses an electric arc to join the metals being welded. It will be a fix joint There are 5 types of joint

10 CNC Machine Tool CNC Milling
Used to cut a workpiece which has irregular contour or complex shape Used to create a product that need a precise dimension or high precision

11 CNC Turning Used to cut a cylindrical workpiece which has irregular contour or complex shape precisely. Used to produce product in a large quantity.

12 CNC Programming Programming language which is used to control the machine: Heidenhain Siemens Fanuc ISO

13 ISO Program Using common language
Can be used in any kind of CNC machine G code and M code G00  linear movement in rapid traverse G01 linear movement with feedrate G02circular movement (clockwise direction) G03circular movement (counter clockwise) M30end program

14 Designing a Mechanical System
The work flow: Design or determine the type of system Part identification Material identification Work preparation

15 Part Identification Part quantity Type of part Material identification

16 Work preparation Consists of: Machine tool selection
Cutting tool Sequence flow Time estimation Material preparation Real Machining activity to create the product
