Learning Outside the Classroom
Personal development Communication New skills Team work Cross-curricular enrichment PGL is a signatory of the DCSF Learning Outside the Classroom manifesto which promotes learning beyond the classroom as being an essential part of learning and personal development for every pupil and student whatever their age, ability or circumstances. All PGL courses in France and Spain are designed to motivate young people to become increasingly independent and to foster a range of skills and personal development. The Excursion Day allows groups to make the most of their tour with visits to local places of historical or cultural interest.

Travel Approximate travel times Dover to Calais by ferry: 75 minutes
Calais to the Ardèche: 12 hours by overnight coach Ardèche to Mimosa: 3 hours by coach In total 28 hours to destination En route stops are made throughout the journey for toilet, refreshment and meal breaks. We suggest that parents supply picnics, snacks etc. for the outward journey especially if travelling a considerable distance to the channel port. Regular stops will be made en route, but service areas can be expensive. Euros will be required for stops abroad. N.B. Meals en route to and from the resort are not included in the course cost. There will be space for one piece of luggage per person plus a small piece of hand luggage. It is a good idea to take a pillow onto the coach for the overnight journey. Please ensure that pupils plan their packing so that everything they need on the journey is taken on board at the outset.

Can I contact my child when they are away?
For many children, part of the learning experience is about being away from home, sometimes for the first time. We would ask parents to allow their children to settle in and enjoy the experience. In the event of needing to contact your child urgently, we will of course organise this. We have a PE emergency number you can call this is: However please bear in mind that some of the areas are very remote therefore signal can be affected.
16
Emergency Number Mobile phones are not permitted for any reason on the trip. If they are brought they will be confiscated and handed back on arrival to school
