We are in need of supplies to create Activity Boxes for children in shelters during times of disaster. Come together to collect or fundraise for supplies to create boxes to bring joy to children during a difficult time.
One Activity Box will be placed in each of the 50 Conex Boxes on Long Island, alongside the other supplies, which are located near designated shelter areas.
The Children’s Shelter Activity Box should have contents for 35 children:
10 glue sticks
2 adult scissors
10 children’s scissors
2 rolls masking tape (small width)
Age appropriate donated magazines for cutting up
5 puzzles for ages 2-8
Donated children’s books
Videos for ages 1-12
5 box wipes
5 rolls ribbon (small width)
2 pad positive stickers
5 packs construction paper
5 box crayons (large)
10 thick coloring books
5 children’s staplers
5 rolls of scotch tape

14. Despite the fact that a safe and effective measles vaccine costs less than $1, in many developing countries, parents do not have access to immunization services. Poverty, poor health systems and a lack of information make it difficult for families to get the care they need. In 2010, measles claimed an estimated 139,300 lives — more than 380 deaths each day. These deaths occurred mostly in children under the age of five.

15. Since 2001 the initiative has supported the delivery of more than 1 billion doses of measles vaccine and helped raise measles vaccination coverage to 85% globally. As a result, worldwide measles deaths have been reduced by 74%.
