Science and Technology: The WEEE Man design. Can we plan a sculpture based on the WEEE Man ? Can Art / Design carry a message ? How can it make an impact ? What is armature ? Designing and making. Habitats around the world; micro-habitats. Classification of living organisms : what is a classification key ? Food chains and food webs – what are the effects of environmental change ? Management of environments & habitats : do we need to ? Why ? SMSC: What can we find out about ourselves as learners ? How do we learn ? Does everyone learn in the same way ? What do we think about our school environment ? What would we change about it and why ? Place and Time : Eco-footprint, carbon footprint. Measuring Human impact on the planet. Electronic waste : the WEEE Man – art to communicate issues. E-Waste – how much does a family generate and what is the impact ? Problems and solutions. How can we change ? Language, Literacy and Oracy ( Inc Spanish): Stories which raise an issue or moral dilemma. Can we use the first person to tell a story ? Can we use repetition of phrases for effect, when storytelling ? What are nouns & pronouns ? How are they used ? Writing persuasive texts. How can we persuade ? How can language be used for impact ? Poetry : expressive language to create images, sound effects and atmosphere. Spanish : Body parts; going to the doctor. “I have …”; a/an - indefinite article; the – definite article; adjectives. How do we introduce ourselves to someone ? What questions could we ask them ? How would we answer similar questions ? Carbon footprint. Year 4 Spring Term One Mathematics : Fractions : counting in fraction steps; fractions of shapes; fractions of numbers. Equivalent fractions. Number, place value & money, including decimals in context. What written & mental methods can we use for addition and subtraction ? Measure and data, linking to Geography. Can we find and interpret data about our carbon footprint ? What written & mental methods can we use for multiplication and division ? Physical and Emotional Health : Dance (Wednesdays) : Repeating sequences of moves. Can we illustrate different environments ? Can we use abstract movement ideas by looking at types of motion in objects ? Football with Plymouth Argyle (Fridays). Arts and Creativity : Faith and Belief : Cornish Rebellion of What happened & why ? Storyboarding and re-enactment! Can music be created to portray different environments ? Exploring music technology. Can Art have a purpose ? Can it carry messages ? (See DT.)
