8 Smarter Balanced Assessments are new, next-generation assessments
LAUSD and the state are using to measure our student’s understanding of Common Core in Math and English Language Arts/literacy. Instead of the old paper-and-pencil approach, the new assessments are taken on electronic devices – allowing students to go beyond multiple choice questions and demonstrate analytical skills and real-world problem solving. The tests are untimed and are “computer adaptive” which means that the questions become harder or easier, depending on a student’s previous answers. The goal is to measure what students know, which provides a more accurate measure of a student’s achievement level. Testing will take place during the Spring semester.
