6. Firefly Why we use it: Firefly ( our Virtual Learning Environment)
There are many reasons why we use Firefly:
Information: Calendar, Policies, Curriculum information, class pages, photos etc.
Blended Learning Space for students: provides links to additional curriculum resources, homework assignments, relevant media etc.
One stop for information.
Environmentally responsible.
Ease of use.

7. What does Firefly look like?

When you enter Firefly, you will see you dashboard. In order to see your
child’s class page select the Primary drop down list.

From this Primary drop down list, you will see
all of the classes as well as the different subjects
your child may be taking at school.
By clicking on your child’s year level, you will be
able to see photos surrounding the learning in the
classroom and read about the different Units of
Inquiry.

Here is an example of the Year 1 Weekly Diary which is set up in a blog format. This page offers up to date information on Units of Inquiry as well as Field Trips and extension exercises that may be useful at home.

10. Our Curriculum What we teach and why:
As a PYP school, children are taught through a programme of inquiry which
uses thematic units of inquiry in which they explore relevant, interesting and
challenging topics ensuring full coverage of a broad and balanced curriculum
as they move through the Primary School. Teachers actively reflect on the Units and activities within these Units to ensure that they are age appropriate, relevant and effective.
Our curriculum is aligned with the UK National Curriculum. Our benchmarks
and levels of achievement correlate with the UK national curriculum. There are
clear expectations for achievement at each level.

Settling in reports for students new to the school (after 6 weeks)
School reports (end of each term)
Parent Teacher conference (end of term 1)
Portfolios and Student-led conferences (Term 2)

12. Achievement Levels: These are the British National
Curriculum expected Levels in each Primary School Year group.
All students are different. What remains the same is our goal: For all students to make progress and achieve success.

In Primary, we are encouraging our students to follow the “4 Be’s”.
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Honest
We are also encouraging students to “fill each other’s buckets”. This means that we are encouraging a Culture of Kindness that we want everyone in our community to be a part of.

14. Areas of Focus For the Primary School
-Utilize Firefly (VLE) –to enable more student and parent access into teaching and learning programmes
-Improve Consistency across the Year Levels
-Continue to refine and improve our assessment and reporting procedures and student progress tracking
-Continue to work on Programme of Inquiry to ensure that it reflects the interests of our students
