Scholastic Reading Inventory
You will need one of the small sheets with instructions. Make sure that you follow the directions exactly. After completing the assessment, record your lexile score. After you have completed the assessment, filled in the form, and returned it to me, please work on your reflection writing assignment.

Reading Interest Survey: Pick 3
These choices do not affect your test passages or questions. It helps build a reading list at the end of the inventory. TRAINER Reading Interests After logging in and selecting the Reading Comprehension Assessment, students see a grade-appropriate reading interest survey. Students select up to three genres. The selected interests do not affect the test. The Reading Comprehension Assessment uses the selected interests and student Lexile measures to generate a personalized reading list at the end of the test. You may be prompted to take a practice test.
Ask for help if you don’t understand the directions to the test (before you begin).
16
After the practice test, you will take the Reading Inventory
After the practice test, you will take the Reading Inventory. It will give you one paragraph at a time. -If you get a question wrong, the next one will be easier. -If you get a question right, the next one will be harder.
17
After the test you’ll be given a Lexile and a list of potential reading books.
TRAINER Test Results Upon completing the test, each student sees the test results screen, which displays the student’s Lexile measure. This screen also displays a personalized list of age-appropriate books using the reading interests selected at the beginning of the test and the student’s Lexile measure. A Beginning Reader, with a BR Lexile measure, may receive fewer recommended books depending on the grade level. Encourage students to use this list to select books for independent reading. Students who complete the assessment on an iPad can carry it to the classroom library to easily refer to the list as they make their book selections. In addition, teachers can print out students’ Recommended Reading Reports including this information using the Scholastic Achievement Manager, or SAM, as we’ll discuss later. WEBINAR TIPS Use your Pointer to direct participants to the Lexile measure. Use your Pointer to direct participants to the Lexile measures of the recommended books. Choosing a Book to Grow Your Lexile
Use your Lexile score and choose a book with a Lexile that falls within your instructional reading range… 100 below your Lexile 50 above your Lexile Example: Lexile score = 550 Reading Range is 450 to 600.
19
After You Have Gotten Your Lexile Score
Look at the chart that follows. Find the Proficiency section of the chart. It will be a shade of green. Find the grade level that your lexile level first appears. This is your grade level proficiency. If you are not currently at an 10th grade level, you will want to improve on your lexile reading score. Talk to me about things you can do to improve your score for next time. Remember, this does not indicate your intelligence, just your current reading level.
