Innovation: Technical Applications
RCI is working to advance technical innovation: RCI consultants are interested in unbiased industry guidance on the durability of roof coatings. The application of coatings on freshly poured concrete decks to alleviate moisture concerns has been discussed by the RCI Technical Advisory Committee. Working together to test field measurements and analyze results of energy cost savings achieved from reflective coatings. Helping to clarifying the effects of coatings on an existing membrane with no vapor retarder. Share the benefits of using liquid applied membranes and new coating technologies with the general public. RCI Technical Advisory Committee has been working on issue of interest to the coatings industry. RCI Foundations are partnering with universities to perform research and innovative studies RCI is working with National Institute of Building Sciences to analyze industry standards and codes
6
Innovation: Field Study #1
The Center for High Performance Environments at Virginia Tech University has been awarded funding from the RCI Foundation to test assumptions about dark and reflective roofing. PIMA, ARMA and EPDM Roofing Association provided additional funding and support for this project. Students continue to research and analyze data from field tests. RCI is supporting emerging professional, emerging technology, and encouraging data research.
7
Innovation: Field Study #2
The University of Toronto Daniels Faculty Center for Research received support from the RCI Foundations to purchase testing and monitoring instrumentation needed to collect and analyze data regarding the performance of green roofs and solar photovoltaic panels. Issues included roof coatings application when applying photovoltaic panels.
8
Innovation: Public Policy & Building Codes
RCI and RCMA are both focused on addressing technical data gaps and conducting research, studies, and developing technical information on issues of importance to the building envelope and coatings industry. RCI also has an advocacy committee that monitors legislation of concern to RCI consultant members and works to engage local members in the legislative process. RCI is working to help shape codes and standards while RCI Foundation is devoted to supporting field research, education, and innovation. The RCI Technical Advisory Committee develops technical guidance documents and position statements. Discuss RCI Advocacy Committee

Innovation: Educational Courses
Designed to provide individuals of differing backgrounds with relevant information about roofing, waterproofing, and building envelope technology and design issues, RCI’s educational programs vary in intensity, from basic concepts to advanced specific application principles and theory. Education topics include innovative topics such as use of drones to evaluate the building envelope, roof coatings around solar photovoltaic panels, testing procedures to demonstrate compliance with air barrier requirements for mechanically attached roofing system, and analyzing new technologies that are rapidly being introduced to the industry. RCI Building Envelope Symposium – Topics such as Drones, roof coatings, air barriers, roofing systems, and new technologies RCI’s Educational Programs have earned an industry-wide reputation for offering top-quality, comprehensive building envelope education.

Innovation: Industry Collaboration
RCI looks forward to working with manufacturers of roof coatings and suppliers to the roof coatings industry on common issues of importance: Workforce Training & Education Building Codes and Standards Technical Developments Emerging Technologies & Applications Navigating Government Regulation RCMA and RCI both are working on behalf of our members to challenge burdensome regulation, help navigate new codes and standards, and provide a platform for our members to grow professionally. RCMA & RCI working together
