Making the most of a career fair - using symplicity for an integrated approach to career fairs Lesia Harhaj Wasserman Center for Career Development New York University

2 Today’s agenda Use the Career Fair module to set-up Pre-Registration for students Gain information and explore technology options that work with Symplicity Design and run reports that show career fair participation and highlight specific demographic data to track attendance trends

Wasserman hosts 15 career fairs and 3 industry expos during the academic year

Job and Internship Fair – 160 employers, 4,000 students Engineering and Technology Fair – 130 employers, 3,000 students Space is at a premium

Lines, Lines, Everywhere! With so many students attending the career fair, how do you efficiently check-in students so that they maximize their career fair time and the career center gets accurate attendance?

8 Pre-Registration using SYMPLicity
Symplicity’s Career Fair Module can be utilized not only for employer registration but for pre-registration check-in for students

9 How it gets done 1. Create Career Fair Event in CF Module – set specific event days for when pre-registration will take place

10 KIOSK Set-UP

11 2. During pre-reg check in times, students check into the event through Symplicity’s kiosk system using their NYU University ID Choose events days and spaces that give you the most access to your students!

12 3. NYU Wasserman uses laptops and portable DYMO printers to print student name-tags on site
Name-tags pull information from the student’s Symplicity account so it’s easy for employers to know who they are talking with

13 4. Students receive a lanyard with their name-tag
When they arrive to the fair, they just show the lanyard to staff and enter the career fair without waiting in line! Students who DO NOT pre-register/forget their lanyard are required to re-check in

14 Day of Career Fair Check-IN
Students who have either not pre-registered or forgotten their lanyards, must check-in again at designated check-in locations Do not receive lanyard – just a name-tag

15 RESULTS Pre-Registration was piloted during the Fall 2015 Career Fair Season Job and Internship Fair – 2,006 students pre-registered Engineering and Technology Fair – 1,600 students pre-registered That’s HALF of the students who attended!

16 Post-Fair Have to merge pre-registration and day-of registration reports Symplicity reporting allows for specific date capture within the Kiosk Base reports

17 Things to think about Positives: Challenges:
How happy students will not be to wait in line! More students learning about and attending the career fair Challenges: 100% accurate results are not guaranteed Students can not double check-in

21 Benefits of CF+ APp Student-center mobile app designed specifically for university career fairs. Simple interface, easy to use with basic functions. Interactive engagement tool to be used by students and Wasserman staff leading up to a Career Fair to see Employer list/plan ahead and used the “day of” to locate employers (map) and communicate important messages/reminders/changes. Provides filter option that allows students to view organizations by major, position types, work authorization. Easy data integration – we export data from Symplicity into excel file and send data to representative at Career fair+ to develop App. Will not be labor intensive on Career Fair team and will eliminate the use of paper – “Go Green” Provide dedicated customer support and a representative will work closely with us on day of event to troubleshoot last minute changes
