15. The Rock Cycle
The rock cycle is a model showing how the 3 groups/families of rocks form and reform.
Shows how rocks can change into each other as conditions around them change.

16. The 3 groups/families of rocks in the rock cycle are:
A. Sedimentary rock: can be changed by heat and pressure into metamorphic rock.

17. B. Metamorphic rock: can melt and cool to form igneous rock.

18. C. Igneous rock: can be broken into fragments that may later form sedimentary rock.

19. James Hutton is responsible for the discovery of the rock cycle.

20. The rock cycle demonstrates conservation of matter: it never destroys elements of rocks but merely redistributes them.
