Changes in the positive direction indicate an improvement in QoL, mean and SEM are shown. Patients were split into 4 groups according their performance on the MDRS at baseline (130–137, 138–140, 141–142 and 143–144 points). Patients scoring in the lowest quartile of the MDRS at baseline did not improve in QoL after STN–DBS compared to patients within the lowest quartile of the MDRS in the BMT group. ** indicates significant differences on a p value<0.01.
