1 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
Attached documents

2 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
This solution for the handling of attached documents combines two ways of transporting attached documents along with a CTD, ECTD or ECN/PCN message. 1.) Scanning and adding an pdf-file to the current message transport 2.) Encoding additional documents and adding them to the exchanged xml-messages

3 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
1.) Scanning and adding an pdf-file to the current message transport Along with the basic xml-message pdf-files may be scanned on NIS side and sent to the CDS via ftp. The may be distributed the same way like the outgoing xml-messages or fetched by the use of a web-application

4 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
Solution 1: Parallel handling of pdf files and xml-messages

5 18digit consignment number
ORFEUS Expert Group meeting (Basel) The filename of the attached document has to be structured, so that the consignment number of the ORFEUS-dossier can be easily isolated, for example: 18digit consignment number PDF ZZZZ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX YY .pdf Identifier running number (01-10 in case of multiple attachments Suffix Code of sender Example for filename of attached document of DB-dossier: PDF pdf

6 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
The filename should include the consignment number instead of the dossiernumber. The dossiernumber is not necessary known the moment the documents are scanned in, so the dossiernumber is more of a practical use.

7 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
2. Integration of attached documents as encoded string Any attached document may be interpreted as a data string by the use of a decoder ( f.i. Base 64 or similar products) . This string may be integrated into the xml-message, so that the dossier itself carry the complete document

8 Solution 2: Embedding of pdf as string within the message
ORFEUS Expert Group meeting (Basel) Solution 2: Embedding of pdf as string within the message

9 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
Advantages: No handling of additional files, documents are integrated in the xml-message Disadvantages: The size of the messages with attached documents will increase A test with a 7-sided pdf has shown the following results: PDF file: 69,2 Kb Encoded pdf file (string) : 92,2 kb Average message size of an ECTD-xml message 50 kb Size of average message with integrated document (7pages) – 150kb

10 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
3.) Combined solution This solution combines the possibility to either add attached documents as pdf or to encode them into the message. By using a simple table the CDS decides in which way the receiver wants to receive the documents, either as pdf or embedded into the message

11 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
3.) Combined solution Note: The upload of messages with the web solution is not foreseen in this solution

12 ORFEUS Expert Group meeting - 05.06.2014 (Basel)
For all 3 solutions, an adjustment of the xml-messages is necessary, to be disussed Remark:First proposal sent to the experts on January, the 13th of 2014 with question for feedback Result: 1 answer (SNCF) Reminder sent on February, the 4th 2014: Result: 1 answer (GC) Draft for combined solution sent on May, the 28th 2014 (preparation for expert meeting)
