Year 9 Options Evening Monday 6th February 2017
My name is Ms Brady and I am a business studies teacher and the careers co-ordinator at THS. I will be showing you where you can find careers resources in school to support your child with their investigations as they consider their options over the coming weeks and describing some of the careers focussed activities which they will be taking part in during National Careers Week in March.

Use the school portal to find out: How to make a careers appointment
Careers Events Up to date employment opportunities Up to date apprenticeship opportunities Staff contacts UCAS and STEM links Futures – Home A good place to start is our dedicated careers website, which you can find on shared portal under the FUTURES brand name On this website you can find ……. For example – if you wanted to know what events were taking place you can look here Or if you wanted direction to some important links you could look here If you need to contact someone about careers these are the staff with specific responsibilities – I am joined by one of my colleagues tonight CH who I will hand over to in a moment

National careers week Tutor time resources available
Student entitlement document issued College assemblies x 4 Career themed All subject areas offer a career themed lesson across years 9 – 13 Yr 9: visiting speakers event 8th March Yr 9: Careers investigation in Business lessons Lunch time drop in careers and apprenticeship registration/ college applications Sixth form Futures See shared portal for full programme ‘til end July On the home page you can see that we have highlighted NCW – these are the types of activities which we will be running – a few of these are specifically aimed at Year 9. Can I draw your attention to several of those – on Weds 8th March there will be 20 employers visiting Yr 9 students during a PSHCE lesson to talk about how their career has developed . Half of these are alumni of the school who have been chosen to enable students the opportunity to interview from a range of careers. Year 9 will also be having two lessons within their Business lessons which will focus on using interactive resources to investigate things like LMI; salaries; the skills and qualities desired by particular areas of work.

Investors in careers final assessment April 2017
Has enabled us to reflect on our provision objectively Has enabled us to identify gaps in our provision Has encouraged us to carry out monitoring and evaluation with all stakeholder groups Final stage assessment You will notice on the leaflet which you have tonight that there is reference to the school’s bid for the quality mark investors in careers. We are working towards the final assessment in April and as you will see this has enabled us to monitor and improve our provision for both students and parents

would be interested in speaking to groups of students during one of our structured activities? panel of external employers who help us to give our students interviews Or perhaps you know someone who would? Finally we are always looking for more help from those employed in different careers and if you think that you could help by volunteering to join structured sessions for students in any way please contact me and let me know.
